Titanium (Ti) is a naturally occurring transitional element and is listed on the periodic table (atomic number 22). Although present abundantly on earth, titanium is never found uncombined and occurs as an oxide in ilmenite, rutile and sphene. Titanium melts at 1660C (3020F) and boils at 3287C (5949F). When used in aircrafts, spaceships, or jewelry, titanium is generally alloyed with other elements. Generating titanium from titanium ore is a very complicated process that only became commercially available about 50 years ago.
